Growing your family

At Fertility Specialists of Texas we are passionate about what we do, how we do it and why. We firmly believe the only true measure of success is the birth of a healthy baby, which is why we explore every option and opportunity to help make that happen as effectively, efficiently and affordably as possible.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) for International Fertility Patients

In vitro fertilization (IVF) begins with ovulation induction. Medications are used to develop and mature multiple follicles in preparation for the egg retrieval.

During an egg retrieval, performed under light sedation, follicular fluid is removed from the ovaries and examined in our IVF lab for the presence of eggs. These eggs are isolated and placed in culture media where they continue the maturation process. A few hours later, the eggs are fertilized using Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). ICSI involves the placement of a single sperm directly into the egg using a microscopic pipette.

The eggs, which develop into embryos, are cultured to day 5 or 6 and frozen via vitrification, a rapid-cooling technique. If genetic testing is requested, an embryo biopsy is performed just prior to freezing. Genetic testing results are usually available 5-7 business days following biopsy.

Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)

Prior to a frozen embryo transfer, the uterus is prepared for conception with estrogen and progesterone. On the day of transfer, the embryo with the highest pregnancy potential is thawed and placed in the uterine cavity.

Two weeks following the FET a blood test is performed to determine pregnancy; positive tests are repeated two days later, and a sonogram is scheduled. Once a heartbeat is confirmed via sonogram, usually around eight weeks, you will be released into the care of your OB/GYN for the duration of your pregnancy.

Using an Egg Donor

The in-house egg donor program at Fertility Specialists of Texas provides an ever-growing pool of candidates for international fertility patients. Our dedicated recruitment team is committed to connecting with, screening and approving top-tier candidates who exemplify health, intelligence, empathy and compassion. Our internal donors are available exclusively for patients at Fertility Specialists of Texas. If we do not have a donor who matches your criteria, we have a network of exemplary agencies that can assist you in your search for the optimal egg donor for your family.

Using a Gestational Carrier (GC) for International Fertility Patients

Fertility Specialists of Texas has established relationships with many of the country’s most highly regarded surrogacy agencies. The agency conducts the initial recruitment and screening of potential surrogates, provides legal referrals and offers administrative assistance throughout the entire process, beginning through birth. A potential carrier must be a mom who has had a healthy pregnancy and delivery and must meet additional medical and psychological criteria before she can be matched.

Once the agency has matched you with a gestational carrier and all contracts have been signed, and the legal agreement is in place, medical treatment begins. Prior to the birth of your baby, the surrogacy attorney files a declaration with the State Courts. It states that the legal parents are the biological or intended parents and not the gestational carrier.
